But, the chief minister in his maiden visit to the minority heartland after becoming the state Chief Minister post March 11, did not disappoint Shastikars as he announced a garbage treatment plant for Salcete and promised to drop the attempt to murder charge against the two Priests and other accused in the Velim Church attack case and beef up the manpower requirements at the Salcete Sub Registrar’s office to tide over the shortage.
He also announced that the proposed passport branch in Margao will start functioning tentatively from May.
Accompanied by TCP Minister and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, the Chief Minister has also promised to spruce up the stinking wholesale fish market and provide relief to joggers and sports lovers by replacing the SAG walking track.
Announcing that his government will build a state-of-the-art waste treatment plant at the Verna IDC on the lines of the Saligao plant, Parrikar said that the process is underway to identify the land at the IDC. “I am having a meeting with officials next week. Three panchayats have objected to the government’s proposal, but they can raise their objections at the time of EIA hearing. Let those opposing the plant at Verna go to Saligao and see for themselves the operation of the plant”.
Three more garbage plants to be set up
MARGAO: After the Saligao waste treatment plant, the Goa government now intends to set up three more such plants in the state, two in South and one in North Goa and will form an Action group to take the plan to its logical conclusion. Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar told the media that the two garbage treatment plants in South Goa will come up at the Verna Industrial Estate and at Curchorem. The second garbage treatment plant in north Goa will come up at Bainguinim, while the plant at Verna will take care of the waste generated in Salcete.
