MARGAO: The Congress has accused the Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government for what it termed as cheating Goemkars with a hike in prices of petrol and domestic gas, demanding to know why Chief Minister is not bringing down the price of petrol to his 2012 price of Rs 54 a litre.
Addressing the media, Congress leader Reginaldo Lourneco said the price of petrol in Goa has hit an all-time high of Rs 68.96 per litre after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar reduced the petrol prices by Rs 11 per litre in March 2012.
“This clearly indicates that Parrikar has reneged his promise of locking the price of gas and petrol. Importantly, the price of domestic gas has been fluctuating between Rs 655 and Rs Rs 704 for a 14.2 kg gas cylinder. “Incidentally, in May 2013, the price of domestic gas was at Rs 418 for a 14.2 kg cylinder,” he added.
While presenting the state budget of 2012, Parrikar, who then held the Finance portfolio, had targeted then
UPA government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh that the Union budget has created a fear of further spiraling the prices of domestic cylinders. “Sadly, when the UPA government was in power, BJP leaders used to shout from the roof top against inflation,” he recalled, while demanding to know why are the BJP leaders are silent now. “As an MLA, I want to ask Parrikar why has he failed to control the rising prices of both fuel and domestic gas. Was his promise of reducing price of petrol and gas only a ploy to dupe Goemkars like his other gimmicks on casinos, illegal mining and coal?” he asked.
