Fr Romano Gonsalves, who was also present at Sardesai’s media briefing, welcomed the Court’s order and hoped that the criminal case pending before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao will also be withdrawn by the government at the earliest.
Addressing the media, the TCP Minister said the government had promised to withdraw the Velim Church appeal case, adding that the government has fulfilled the promise. “Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and the government believe that the two Priests will never attempt to murder someone. This government believes in Goemkarponn and we are of the firm opinion that no religious leader will ever intend to murder somebody,” he said.
He also reminded that it is a fact that the JMFC had dropped the attempt to murder section on grounds that there were no serious injuries on the injured policemen. “I am happy that the government has honoured its word. We will stand by Goemkars. When this government was formed, certain political vested interests tried to spread the propaganda that it will work against the minority. We have shown that this government will stand by Goemkarponn,” Vijai asserted.
In his address, Fr Romano hoped that the government will act and get the case
withdrawn.
“I welcome the government’s decision to withdraw the appeal in the Sessions Court. The case is still pending before the JMFC and I hope the government would get the case withdrawn,” Fr Romano added.
