Former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar slammed Union Minister Shripad Naik for asking Mandrem constituents to vote for Dayanand Sopte. Parsekar claimed Naik’s comments were made at a ‘Vijay Sankalp’ rally organised in Mandrem on March 2 and instead of campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls, the union minister is campaigning for the assembly bypolls.
“There is a survey being undertaken in Mandrem constituency to ascertain the best candidate for the BJP in the bypoll. Hence, it is wrong on Naik’s behalf to ask people to vote for Sopte when the party is yet to declare the candidate,” Parsekar said.
On being questioned whether he will contest the upcoming bypoll, Parsekar claimed that BJP’s workers in Mandrem are with him and believes BJP will not mete out any injustice to him.
The former chief minister also said that Naik was probably ignorant about the rally he was attending, mistaking it to be a bypoll rally.
