Parts of Socorro hit by water shortage

SALIGAO

Certain parts of Socorro on Porvorim plateau and Bhonsalewado, Ekodi Manas and Halliwado in Britona are facing acute shortage of potable water, and residents in these areas are totally dependent on water tankers.

Tanker owners on Monday refused to supply water through tankers as their payments were reportedly not settled by PWD. However, the issue has now been sorted by the department.

Speaking to The Goan, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said he has been in touch with PWD since February and had convened several review meetings with PWD.

“Despite this, there has been shortage of water. Lack of proper management is the root cause of this water shortage,” he said.

When contacted, executive engineer V M Rao Chavan admitted that some parts of Porvorim constituency which are at the tail end are experiencing water shortage to some extent.

“The demand for water has increased these days, but the supply has remained the same. The department is working hard to tide over this problem. Water is being supplied through tankers to the areas which do not get water supply,” said Chavan.
