Acknowledging that people of Goa have applied for Portuguese passports for the purpose of employment in Europe, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday assured that government will resolve the Indian passport tangle within the next 8-10 days.
He, however, slammed the Congress MP Francisco Sardinha for not raising the issue in Parliament since it affected Goans, mostly hailing from the Catholic community.
Addressing a function at Nuvem on Tuesday evening, the Chief Minister said he along with Environment Minister Alexio Sequeira has explained to Union Minister Menakshi Lekhi the Portuguese passport issue.
“This issue has been plaguing the people of Goa, who had taken Portuguese passports for the purpose of employment and for the future of their children. Many of these people are still staying in Goa. I am happy to announce that this issue affecting Goans will be resolved in the next 8-10 days”, he said.
Slamming Sardinha, Sawant said the Congress MP should have taken up the issue with the Centre. But, he did not even raise the issue in Parliament. “This issue has been affecting mostly our Catholic brothers and sisters, but the MP did not raise the issue in Parliament”.
