CANACONA
According to reports, Carlton Cardozo was travelling by motorboat in the area when he was startled to find a peahen struggling in the sea near the Konko Island.
Without wasting any time, Cardozo swiftly rescue the bird and brought it ashore at Palolem. The forest officials were alerted and a team from the Hathipal Rescue Centre at Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary visited the site. The team took the peahen into its custody and informed locals that the bird would be shifted to Bondla Zoo, where it would be treated and
rehabilitated.
The incident evoked strong reactions from locals, who claimed that peafowls are known to live on Konko Island and commercial activity on the islands has been threatening the protected species.
Another resident, one Joseph, bitterly complained about unhindered development on Konko Island.
