Pedestrian killed in truck accident at Karaswada

MAPUSA

A 57-year-old pedestrian from Karaswada died on Friday after being knocked down by a goods truck under the flyover at Karaswada Junction in Mapusa. The truck driver has been arrested in connection with the accident. 

The incident took place around 11.15 am when the truck driver, Mingel Gomes (56) of Surla-Bicholim, was driving a cargo vehicle towards Tivim. The truck hit Shyam Mayekar, who was walking on the road beneath the Karaswada flyover. 

The pedestrian fell on the road and the truck ran over his foot. He was taken in an ambulance to Mapusa District Hospital and later referred to GMC Hospital, Bambolim, where he died while undergoing treatment. 

A case has been registered against the driver for causing death by negligent driving, and he has been arrested.

Further investigation is underway.
