Newly-elected Mapusa MLA, Joshua D’Souza, on Saturday said the people of Mapusa desire that their MLA should be in the cabinet.
D’Souza also said that an appropriate decision taken by senior party leaders in the matter will send the right message to the constituency, taluka and the entire State.
“It’s up to the government. But the people of Mapusa strongly feel that their MLA should be a minister in the upcoming cabinet. It is not my demand but the demand of the people of Mapusa and all the karyakartas, councillors and those who have supported BJP in the last 20 years,” D’Souza said.
D’Souza was first elected as the MLA of Mapusa in the by-election held in 2019 soon after the death of his father, Francisco D’Souza (Babush), who was a deputy chief minister in the Manohar Parrikar-led government in the State.
Speaking further, D’Souza said that the people of Mapusa have been electing a BJP MLA continuously.
“This time during the election campaign the Mapusa merchant’s community had strongly demanded that I must get a ministry. Mapusa people expect that their MLA should be in the cabinet,” he said.
He said any decision taken by the chief minister and the party will send good vibes to the constituency, taluka and the State.
Former deputy minister Francisco D’Souza was first elected as MLA of Mapusa on the BJP ticket in 2002 and later went on to win the seat for four consecutive terms until his death.
His son, Joshua D’Souza, is carrying the baton forward by getting elected for the second time.
