The ‘Tika Utsav’ vaccination drive has been drawing good response as a number of people lined up to take the Covid jabs at various panchayats in Bardez.

As many as 264 beneficiaries took the jabs at the vaccination drive held at the Parra panchayat in association with the Primary Health Centre of Siolim on Monday.

Similar vaccination drives received enthusiastic response in other parts of the taluka on Sunday, with 212 people taking the vaccination in Oxel panchayat and 237 beneficiaries taking the jabs in Pirna panchayat.

Giving the breakup of the vaccination drive in Parra panchayat, Health Officer of Siolim PHC, Dr Sadhna Shetye informed that 66 males and 51 females, who were all above 60 of age, took the jabs.

Similarly, 66 males and 80 females with comorbidities and in the age bracket of 45 to 59 were also vaccinated. One person was administered the second doze.

“At least, people should now come and take the vaccination as the service is available at the doorstep. The good thing is that people who are vaccinated will not fall seriously ill although they can get infected even after the vaccination,” said Delilah Lobo, Sarpanch of Parra.

“There is nothing to worry. I have taken the vaccination and my husband and mother-in-law who is over 80-years-old have also taken the jab,” she added.

Ports Minister and local MLA Michael Lobo said only vaccination can tame the Covid virus and appealed to people to come out in large numbers and get vaccinated.
