VASCO
Vasco BJP Mandal President and former MMC chairperson Deepak Naik on Friday said people should not oppose educational projects like IIT in the State, as they could produce brilliant Goan students and make Goa proud.
Naik was speaking to reporters after felicitating Preeti Jagdev from Baina, a research scholar from NIT Goa who is the only Indian enlisted as one of the top 25 women scientists in the field of optics around the world.
"I congratulate Preeti Jagdev for achieving such laurels despite belonging to a simple family. Her father teaches at MES College and credit also goes to her parents. Jagdev has not only made Vasco proud but also the state and country,” said Naik.
"Today, we don't have an IIT college in Goa and people wanting to pursue IIT have to go to other places like Bangalore or Mumbai.”
“We have seen a lot of people have been opposing the IIT project in the State. People should not oppose such educational projects because even without an IIT in Goa, Jagdev has managed to achieve such laurels.”
“If we have an IIT in Goa, we may have brilliant students who can make the State proud at the national and international level. It is a matter of pride for me because Jagdev is from my ward and her parents are my voters," said Naik.
Preeti Jagdev advised youngsters to dream big and work hard towards achieving their dreams.
"My entire journey changed after I went to NIT Goa. I received great education in the State till my masters in Goa, but when I joined NIT, I matured as a researcher because our faculties had received degrees from reputed IITs, NITs.”
“When we get to interact with them or do research under their guidance, we automatically mature as researchers and my experience is that after joining NIT, my life changed completely and I got an opportunity to go abroad to present my research only after joining NIT.”
“Such institutions will be a blessing for all those who want to excel in the field of research and engineering," said Jagdev.
