Calangute is back in the news albeit for the wrong reasons after Souza Lobo, a popular restaurant bang on the beach was damaged by some miscreants in the wee hours of Sunday.
Police have registered an offence for criminal trespass, wrongful restraint of employees and assaulting them and damaging the steps and pavers of the restaurant and also arrested one person in the incident.
Sources close to the owner of Souza Lobo informed that some bouncers entered the property at around 2 am and thrashed the security guard of the restaurant.
The source further disclosed that two waiters were also beaten up while the footsteps leading to the restaurant were broken and the furniture was also damaged.
“They went on a rampage beating the staff, breaking the footsteps and furniture of the restaurant. The whole area was in mess with the destruction done in the dead of the night,” the source informed.
A police official informed that the fracas was the result of a property dispute between the owner of Souza Lobo and an Indian owner who has purchased a property close to the popular restaurant.
Several locals condemned the incident after the issue was highlighted in the social media on Sunday morning.
Calangute PI, Nolasco Raposo informed that an offence has been registered based on the complaint received from the owner of the Souza Lobo restaurant and one person has been arrested.
“A case has been registered for trespass and assault and one person has been arrested. We are investigating the matter,” Raposo said.
