Joining the chorus of opposition to plans to shift the Sunburn festival to South Goa, South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes warned on Saturday that the people of South Goa are gearing up to wear boxing gloves to take on the organisers of the controversial festival and prevent its establishment in the district.
He further warned the politicians, the local panchayat bodies and the comunidades who connive with the organisers to host the festival in South Goa will be named and shamed by the people.
The South Goa MP further said that citizens are exploring the possibility of filing criminal cases against the organisers for reportedly accepting bookings for the three-day event without obtaining the requisite permissions from the government and without finalising the festival venue.
Reacting to the plans to shift Sunburn festival from North to South Goa, Captain Viriato said, “People of South Goa will all wear boxing gloves to take on the might of the organisers. Enough is enough. We will all join the people to stop the festival from taking place in South Goa.”
“You may ask anyone in Goa what is Sunburn famous for all these years. We do not want such a festival in our South Goa. Let the government beware of the sentiments of the people or be prepared to face the consequences and wrath of the people,” he warned.
Expressing shock and surprise that the organisers have accepted bookings when the announcement is silent on the venue of the festival, Captain Viriato demanded that the government order an inquiry into the bookings when the authorities have insisted that no permissions have been issued to the organisers to hold the event in South Goa.
The South Goa MP is the latest Congress leader from South Goa who has come out openly to oppose Sunburn in South Goa. Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has already slammed the BJP government for pushing the festival in South Goa.
