PORVORIM
Porvorim police on Saturday conducted a tenant verification drive at Halliwado in Penha de Franca and rounded up 12 persons to check if they had any criminal backgrounds.
Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parub said they will initiate action against owners of huts/flats who have not furnished tenant verification forms to the police.
“A lot of people are staying in rented premises in Porvorim, but owners of the huts/flats have not submitted requisite forms to the police despite reminders. Crimes in Porvorim are also increasing these days and hence, Porvorim police decided to carry out a tenant verification. This drive will continue in all the parts of Porvorim,” said II Parab.
Several huts, illegal constructions and kiosks have sprung up in Porvorim, with many mushrooming at Halliwado.
The Penha de Franca panchayat has been accused of not having taken steps against these illegal constructions.
There have been allegations that some flat owners have encroached upon the terrace of their residential buildings. One such building is at Oval Park and the panchayat has not taken any action to demolish the encroachment despite a complaint from other flat owners residing in the building.
