People's High School told to reply within week

A two-member bench consisting of Justice F M Reis and Justice Nutan Sakhardande of Bombay High Court at Goa on Tuesday issued a notice to the management of People's High School, Panaji asking them to submit a reply within a week to a petition filed by 41 parents of special students studying in the School For Appropriate Learning (SFAL), asking the court to move the classes held for the SFAL students from first floor to the ground floor.

The matter has been adjourned till May 3.

The petition stated that the Goa Government, in its circular dated June 14, 1999, had issued instructions that the classroom and other rooms for special children should be provided on the ground floor as it is easily accessible to the students.

“In 2010, SFAL was shifted on the ground floor which had approximately an area of 125 sq mts, and this was done in pursuant of government grants which was granted to SFAL after due recognition of the State. However, in the academic year 2015-2016, the SFAL was shifted to the first floor from ground floor in three rooms having total area of only 85 sq mts,” read the petition.

Parents of these students knocked the doors of the High Court after approaching all relevant authorities, it was informed.
