PERNEM: Alleging scam in the renovation work of the Resha Mashelkar garden at Pernem, the Pernem Block Congress has demanded an enquiry into the renovation work.
Speaking to reporters, Pernem Congress president Umesh Talvnekar said: "The Resha Mashelkar garden, which was constructed at the cost of Rs 50 lakh, was demolished and renovated at the cost of Rs 1.20 crore by using the leftover material and by giving a little touch."
"GSUDA had constructed this garden at the cost of Rs 50 lakh, which was left half completed after its inauguration, but no one demanded enquiry," he added.
"Now, the garden is being renovated through the tourism department at the cost of Rs 1.20 crore. The renovation work is going at a snail's pace for the last two-and-half years," said Talvnekar and demanded with Tourism Minister Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar to conduct inquiry into the matter.
Talvnekar furtehr said new bus stand at Pernem is under construction for the last five years and the contractor is increasing his prices according to rising market price.
"Likewise, the Resha Mashelkar garden work is going on for the last two-and-half years. We can just see concrete structures instead of the garden. The government should spend money to provide basic amenities in Pernem constituency instead of wasting money on garden," said Talvnekar.
