Workers at the Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) went on half day strike on Friday, after accusing the council of not releasing their salaries on time.
To protest against the delay in releasing salaries, the workers went on half-day strike and did not work till 11.45 am.
PMC Chairperson Madhav Sinai Desai and Chief Officer Anil Rane discussed with the workers and assured to release the salaries on Monday. Following the assurance, the workers withdrew their strike and resumed work.
The workers complained to the chairperson and chief officer that two staffers do not attend the work on a regular basis and as a result, their salaries had been getting delayed every month, they claimed.
The chairperson and chief officer assured the workers that action would be taken and the issue would be resolved in the presence of MLA Pravin Arlekar at a meeting on Monday.
The aggrieved workers said they had been given a raise of Rs 200 in their salaries since last year. They claimed that this raise of Rs 200 per month has not been added to their salaries and they have been drawing the same old salary, because the bills are not submitted on time by the PMC employees. They also claimed that provident fund was not being paid on time.
PMC Chairperson Madhav Sinai Desai assured the workers that they would be paid the increased salary from this month and that, the arrears would be paid in phases. He also promised to investigate the provident fund issue.
