A 15-year-old girl was injured in a hit-and-run mishap at Shantinagar area on Friday afternoon.
According to information, Joyce Swamy was on her way to school when a speeding taxi struck her near the railway overbridge, but the taxi refused to halt after the accident and sped away from the scene.
Incidentally, a police PCR jeep was around and witnessed the accident. The jeep rushed to her aid and shifted the injured student to Chicalim Sub District Hospital.
Swamy suffered leg injuries and was later shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital for further medical attention.
Sources said the taxi owner later arrived at the hospital and apologised for the incident and said he was in a rush since there was a client waiting for the taxi at Palolem.
However, the police said that the taxi driver was taken to the Vasco police station and further enquiry is in progress.
