Hectic activities are afoot along the coastal belt in Pernem taluka, as various parties and events are being organised to usher in the New Year.
With various organisers set to hold New Year parties along the coastal belt of Morjim, Ashvem, Mandrem, Harmal and Keri-Tiracol beaches, parking spaces are being marked at the beaches to avoid traffic chaos, while the organisers are busy setting up banners for New Year parties at different places in the taluka.
According to sources, there is a rush of tourists at the beaches in Pernem taluka, leading to an acute shortage of parking spaces. Land owners, taking advantage of the prevailing situation and to make an extra buck, have begun charging fees to park vehicles in their private properties.
Sources further informed that New Year parties will be organised at all major beaches in Pernem taluka and the organisers are awaiting permissions from the Deputy Collector's office to host the parties.
Sources informed that four parties will be organised at Ashvem-Mandrem and three parties each at Morjim and Harmal. Parties will also be organised at shacks and other restaurants.
When contacted, Pernem Deputy Collector Narayan Gad said no permission has given for the parties so far.
“Organisers tend to apply for permissions at the last moment. It is only after police clearances that we give permission with strict conditions,” said Gad.
Sources added that there is a great demand for DJs, with the rates of international DJs ranging from Rs 80,000 to as high as Rs 2 lakh for one night, while the tickets rate for parties range from Rs 500 to Rs 3000.
“We have made arrangements for parking of cars and for that we have taken a field on rent,” said Marvela Beach Resort owner Jaideep Bhosle.
Given the surge in tourist flow to Pernem taluka, Pernem Police have stepped up surveillance at the Chopdem junction.
