PERNEM
People generally demand the transfer of officers after being unhappy with their performance, but the situation is quite the opposite in Pernem.
The sudden transfer of Pernem Municipal Council’s (PMC) young chief officer Gautami Parmekar has been questioned by many people in Pernem town, with locals demanding that she be brought back to PMC after commending her on her performance.
Many have expressed displeasure over the transfer of Pernem Mamlatdar-2 and PMC Chief Officer Gautami Parmekar to Mapusa with immediate effect.
“Permekar is a very upright officer, who as chief officer, managed to increase the revenue of PMC. She must have been transferred for political reasons,” said Pernem Block Congress President Umesh Talavanekar.
Expressing unhappiness over the transfer, PMC Councilor Gajanan Sawal Desai described Parmekar as a dedicated officer who would promptly resolve grievances of the people.
“People were free to meet her in her office,” said Dessai.
Deciding to seek Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s intervention in the matter, Pernem Municipal Council Vice-Chairperson Narayan Mayekar said, “Parmekar is a very efficient officer. Thanks to her efforts, revenues of PMC have increased manifold. She is a victim of political conspiracy. I will meet Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and request him to cancel her transfer to Mapusa,” said Mayekar.
