The vendors have warned that if the situation does not improve within seven days, they will stage a protest outside the corporation’s office in Panaji on July 7 at 11 am.
According to them, the vegetables supplied often include rotten tomatoes, spoiled potatoes and other poor-quality produce. This has led to frequent complaints from customers and is affecting their sales. Vendors said they are also facing the anger of customers due to the poor quality.
Some shopkeepers said the vegetables are sometimes so bad that even animals refuse to eat them. Customers are also forced to sort through the produce, causing inconvenience and wastage of time and money.
Vendors further alleged that customers have raised doubts over whether substandard vegetables are being supplied to rural areas, while better quality produce is available in the open market at lower prices.
They have demanded that GSHC Chairperson Premendra Shet personally look into the matter, verify the facts with officials, and take immediate steps to ensure the supply of fresh and good-quality vegetables.
