Residents of Bainguinim have raised concerns over noise and air pollution allegedly caused by an industrial girder casting yard operated by M/s RKCPL Limited for the NH748 highway expansion project.
According to the Pornem Goemcho Nagrik Monch (PGNM), the yard is located barely 10–20 metres from residential areas and a school attended by around 600 children, affecting over 3,600 residents. The group claims that operations have continued for over 50 days, generating excessive noise, dust and fumes, sometimes until 10 pm, including on Sundays.
PGNM alleges that the project lacks mandatory permissions and environmental clearances. Though the Se Old Goa Village Panchayat issued two stop-work orders on October 5 and 29, work reportedly continued. The matter is before the Bombay High Court at Goa. PGNM has sought an immediate halt to operations.
