: In an interesting development, the in-charge of Cuncolim Police station PI Ram Asare has been transferred to Ponda traffic cell.
The police department has now posted PI Gurudas Kadam as the new in-charge of Cuncolim police station. PI Kadam was seen at the Cuncolim police station on Sunday and the formal take over is expected to take place on Monday.
The sudden transfer has triggered speculations in police circles as it comes against the backdrop of the fatal accident that had taken place at Cuncolim, which had resulted in a violent reaction by the people over police goof up in the investigation.
Sources in the know said that the police higher ups had taken a serious note of the violence that followed the accident as the people had accused the Cuncolim police for shifting the body without proper panchanamaand investigations.
When The Goan contacted the district police chief, SP Shekhar Prabhudessai to shed light on PI Asare’s transfer, he merely said that the transfer has been affected by the police headquarters, pointing out that he has no idea whether the PI’s transfer had anything to do with the accident case.

Tension rent the air at the Rumdamol housing board when some activists stopped a vehicle transporting beef for sale in the locality.
The owner Nizamuddin Bepari, however, asserted that not only the transportation of beef is legal, but he has all legal documents to carry out sale of the meat in his establishment.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning when some activists acting on a tip off raised a dispute over the transportation of beef.They also intimated the incident to the Animal Rescue team while calling for immediateaction against the owner.
A verbal duel broke out between the activists and the owner before a Maina Curtorim police team descended at the Housing Board as a precautionary measure and to avert any untoward incident.
Bepari told The Goan that he is in possession of all documents, right from the purchase of beef in Belgaum and Bijapur to itstransportation to Goa. I have permissions from the panchayat for the sale of the meat as well”, he said and wondered why certain elements are fomenting trouble in the locality.
When contacted, Maina Curtorim PI Harish Madkaikar said that no offense has been registered by the police as Bepari was in possession of all legal documents for the purchase, transportation and sale of the meat.
