The new general administration of the Society of the Missionaries of St Francis Xavier, commonly known as the Society of Pilar, has been elected during the 20th General Chapter of the Society of Pilar.
While Fr Nazareth Fernandes was elected the 19th Superior General of the Society of Pilar, Fr Steevan D’Souza from Udupi was elected as the Vicar General, Fr Anthony Joseph Fernandes from Raia (2nd Councillor), Fr Saturnino Almeida from Goa Velha (3rd Councillor), Fr Maria Michael from Tuticorin (4th Councillor) and Fr Derick Rodrigues from Verna (General Treasurer). The new general administration will have a tenure of five years.
On August 7, a solemn Eucharistic celebration, presided by the new Fr General, was celebrated in the Pilar Monastery Church.
During his homily, Fr General said, “I will uphold the Constitutions and the traditions of the Society of Pilar and continue to witness and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus, especially to those who have not yet known him.”
A felicitation programme followed in honour of the New General Administration.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Nazareth expressed his gratitude to all the members and appreciated the outgoing administration for all their efforts in guiding the Society.
