Plaint filed against cops for consuming beer on duty

The trio were referred for medical examination at the Hospicio by Margao Police station in-charge, PI C L Pail after citizens complained that they were in possession of beer bottles, which they flung out after spirited citizens confronted them late Friday evening at Gogol.
Margao PI Patil confirmed that the three policemen attached to the PCR van were referred for medical examination after the citizens complained that they had seen them carrying beer bottles. While the citizens complained that they saw the police constables with the beer bottles, PI Patil maintained that the three policemen maintained that that they were given the beer bottles at a birthday party of a friend, but did not consume any alcohol. "Let us wait for the medical examination to shed light on the complaint that that the police personnel had consumed beer while on duty," PI Patil told The Goan late Friday night.
Amrutnagar resident and noted artist Sidhanath Buyao told The Goan that the citizens, who complained to the Margao police, were agitated given the rising burglaries in the Fatorda area of the city. "When we came to know that the policemen attached to the PCR van were carrying beer bottles, we stopped the jeep and later complained to PI Patil to initiate action. We have nothing against the policemen, but since they were deputed for night patrolling, our only only concern was that they should not consume any beer or alcohol as that would only risk the lives and properties of the citizens," Buyao said. PI Patil told The Goan the police would not spare the three policemen if the medical examination turned out positive, saying that consuming alcohol on duty amounts to indiscipline.
Sidhanath Buyao along with Congress general secretary Girish Chodankar and other citizens were spotted at the Margao police station late Friday night.
