In what could be a dream come true for people of Belagavi and Hubli-Dharwad, work on the new railway line connecting both places will soon be a reality.

Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi has directed officials to conduct a final location survey for the Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi new railway line within next two months. He has also assured that the proposed new train between Belagavi and Vasco would be flagged off soon, after normalcy returns on all railway time tables which had become irregular due to heavy rains and landslides.

As present, the Dharwad-Belagavi railway line passes through Londa and it takes more time to travel by rail than by road as an extra distance of 31 kilometres has to be covered.

Considering that long-standing demand of commuters and elected representatives of Karnataka for a direct line between Dharwad and Belagavi, the final location survey for the Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi (90 km) rail route is now included in the 2019-20 budget.

Angadi, who has gifted the people of Belagavi with a new Bangaluru-Belagavi train soon after assuming charge, has also been instrumental in getting the work

approved for the final location survey along the Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi rail route.

According to SWR sources, the survey for final location for the proposed new railway line alignment has been sanctioned. At a recent review meeting, Angadi decided that the work shall be taken up immediately and accordingly, the final location survey work has been assigned to Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE). Known for its efficiency, K-RIDE is expected to complete the surevy latest by October.

“The progress of the survey work will be reviewed every fortnight and the entire work shall be completed in 2 months, so that the proposal for actually laying of the railway line can be commenced,” Angadi said.

The proposed new railway line passes through Dharwad, Kittur and Hirebagewadi to reach Belagavi. The distance between Belagavi and Dharwad will be reduced by 31 Kms once this new line is laid, thereby

benefiting public in Dharwad and Belagavi, as the journey between these two smart cities would be easier and quicker.
