"We have made a detailed plan to make water available. We have begun with a project to integrate all water treatment plants. A designated executive engineer has been given the task to study the entire issue. He has carried out a detailed survey of about four water treatment plants in the last two months and prepared an action plan on the improvement that needs to be carried out," the Chief Minister said.
"These are issues of actual planning. Assonora has three plants but they have no connectivity with each other. If one fails, despite having the capacity, we cannot pump water. The main issue is power outages and we are working in this area", he said.
Speaking earlier, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes raised the problem of water shortage in his constituency, especially from March to May, every year.
Responding to him, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said, "We have set up two water treatment plants for water supply to Canacona - 5 MLD at Mokhard and 10 MLD at Sristhal - which get their raw water supply mainly from Chapoli dam."
"However, when the raw water pipeline to these plants was laid, it was of 400 mm instead of 600 mm and the capacity of that pipeline is 9.5 MLD. So though we have 15 MLD plant, we cannot get raw water supply from that pipeline. Now we have taken a decision to lay 600 mm pipeline costing around Rs 17 crore to solve the water problem in Canacona. Before the end of
this Assembly, we will issue the work order," said
Dhavalikar.
He also informed that a provision to set up 5 MLD plant at Gavane dam has also been made by the government. "An estimate of Rs 47 crore is ready. Once we get the EFC, we will issue the tender," he said assuring to visit Canacona after the assembly session to identify the issue pertaining to
water supply.
