The pleadings in the appeal against the acquittal of the two accused in the Scarlett Keeling murder case have completed with the Bombay High Court.
The Central Bureau of Investigation which had taken up the case after it was transferred from the Goa Police, have challenged the decision of the Children’s Court to acquit both Samson D’Souza as well as Plácido Carvalho in the sexual assault and murder of British teenager Scarlett Keeling.
Keeling was found dead in the sands of the Anjuna beach back in February 2008 and the CBI charged the two who were working at Curlie’s beach shack of sexual assault and murder through negligence.
Earlier Keeling’s mother Fiona Mackeown alleged that the CBI were trying to close the case denting her hopes of securing justice for her daughter.
The Goa Children’s Court had in 2016 acquitted the accused, booked under the IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, assault or use of criminal force on a woman with an intent to outrage her modesty and administering a stupefying drug with an intent to cause hurt.
The CBI challenged the acquittal of D’Souza and Carvalho in the High Court in February last year.
