“On November 8, 2016, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi wrecked the tourism industry in the State of Goa,” Pilot said referring to the demonetisation move that inconvenienced a lot of tourists and locals in the State.
The former Union Minister was addressing a gathering at Tercena Ground, Aldona, in the presence of Congress candidate, Amarnath Panjikar and other leaders.
Speaking further, he said demonetisation was such an ill-conceived decision that the RBI had to change the rules of the game at least 150 times.
“First they said those who are getting married could withdraw Rs 2.5 lakh. But when they realized that both the bride and the groom were withdrawing Rs 2.5 lakh each, they changed the rule and said that the amount was per couple who needed to print a wedding card,” he said.
He further said that although banks and ATMs across the country had no money, police were arresting people who had lakhs of new currency notes.
Pilot also warned the people of Goa to remain alert and not to fall for the lies spread by the new entrant Aam Aadmi Party.
“AAP should first find out how many of their MLAs have been jailed and how many  are under investigation,” he said and warned saying that the party has only come to split the secular vote.
He said Congress has given an ideal candidate in Panjikar to the people of Aldona, who is young, clean and educated and urged the people to give him the mandate.
Leader of the Opposition Pratapsing Rane and Congress leader Dr Pramod Salgoankar and others also spoke.
