PANAJI
A day after explosive charges of corruption were levelled by former Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik, the Congress on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his cabinet ministers and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appoint a judicial probe into the allegations, led by a sitting Supreme Court judge.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, the opposition party's national spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh also said that CM Sawant and his cabinet ministers were directly responsible for the spate of deaths in the state during the pandemic.
"The PM must immediately dismiss the CM and his entire council of ministers because they are directly involved in massive corruption in the middle of the pandemic. I am not saying this, it is a BJP-appointed Governor who is making these allegations. The allegations should be investigated by a sitting justice of the Supreme Court," Vallabh told a press conference in Panaji.
Malik on Monday told a national news channel that corruption was rampant in Goa and that he had informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about it before he was abruptly transferred as Governor to Meghalaya. Malik had also alleged large scale corruption by the Goa government during the pandemic and the lockdown when scores of people died due to poor Covid management.
"The PM should come and answer. You do 'mann ki baat'. Have one 'mann ki baat' on this issue. After being intimated by the Governor of state, why did you not initiate any action against the Goa CM. I hope by today evening PM will take action against Sawant and the entire cabinet," he said.
