Is selling plants and flower pots on mobile carts banned and illegal? Or, are the poders selling pav on cycles especially behind the Margao Municipal Council building required to display a name plate with the name of the baker and his registration number while selling pav?
Well, consumer rights activists are planning to take up a major initiative against the nurseries mushrooming in the fields and hawkers selling plants on mobile carts, besides poders selling the pav.
GOACAN Convenor Roland Martins told the media on Thursday that a drive will be initiated to check all cycles used in selling pav in the city, especially behind the Municipal garden, to check whether the cycles they are using are only restricted to selling pav or are being used to sell fish and even flower pots.
"As per the norms, every cycle used in selling the pav should have a name plate with the name of the baker and his registration number." These details are mandatory as per the law, but are not followed by the poders selling pav in the city," he claimed.
Similarly, Martins pointed out that flower pots and plants cannot be sold on mobile cart. "We will ask the South Goa district Consumer Council to take up the exercise against the nurseries as well as the mobile carts selling the plants. "The nursery owners cannot take advantage of the trust and hospitality of Goans. They sell any plants, including medicinal plants, with photos of the product coming from Israel", Martins said.
