The electricity department may have worked overtime to repair electricity poles and restore power supply in Salgini-Netravali, but it has failed to take note of an electricity pole with live wires which has been bent precariously over the Salgini-Verlem road.
According to locals, the electricity pole has been leaning for about five months and it bent further after the recently cyclone.
“There could be a serious consequences if the electricity pole comes crashing down along with the wires on the road. Not only could it endanger lives, it will also disrupt power supply to the entire area,” said a local.
“Given the remote location, it took electricity department staff many days to repair the damaged poles and wires, before restoring power supply in the village. This mishap would leave villagers again without power supply for many days.”
Locals said BJP Mahila Morcha Vice President Savitri Kavlekar alerted electricity department Executive Engineer Vinayak Mashelkar about the electricity pole lying precariously at Salgini and the consequences if it were to come crashing down.
She also highlighted the need for underground cabling in the village to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the remote area.
According to Kavlekar, Mashelkar has assured to relocate the electricity pole.
