Statehood Day: Ekvott vows to protect interests of Goa & Goans

MARGAO
Goencho Ekvott and its various supporting organizations have renewed their commitment to the State and people of Goa on Goa Statehood Day, to safeguard the interests of its people, and its rich flora & fauna which is destroyed primarily for the benefit of corporates with funds drawn from the public exchequer.

Goencho Ekvott founder, Orville Dourado Rodrigues reminded the government that “thousands of trees have been uprooted during the recent cyclone. The forest department should have by now started an afforestation drive to compensate for the loss of tree cover.

With favourable monsoon season round the corner, Orville urged the citizens of Goa to take up planting of trees and not to depend on the administration who are instead busy purchasing municipal Councilor’s as was recently experienced in Quepem, Mapusa and other towns.

Goencho Ekvott has expressed its anguish over Power Minister Nilesh Cabral‘s recent statement supporting a project and trying to find fault in the recommendations of the Supreme Court appointed Central Empowered Committee (CEC).  “By his unwarranted statements the Minister for Power has belittled the status of the highly qualified members of the CEC, more so when Cabral is also the Minister for Environment, a ministry that he has miserably failed to protect”, stated Goencho Ekvott Convener Creson Antao.

He added: “We would like to remind the Minister for Power that his party was is ruling Goa for the past over eight years in the last decade and he should come up with data about the underground HT/LT power cable that has been installed constituency wise in kilometres. When the ruling dispensation priorities are way out from the basic public benefits, mis-planned utilization of funds comes to fore when such natural calamities occur”.
