Responding to complaints from residents, Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo has directed the Anjuna police to take action against establishments playing loud music after 10 pm.

She has also asked the Anjuna-Caisua panchayat to cancel the licences of those violating the noise pollution rules.

On Friday, MLA Lobo convened a meeting with residents of Ozrant-Vagator regarding noise pollution and Sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar and Panch Dinesh Patil were also present at the meeting.

The residents complained that music from restaurants and clubs were blaring throughout the night, severely affecting elderly citizens, children and sick people.

The locals claimed that while they were not opposed to their businesses, they did not want to be inconvenienced by the loud music at night.

MLA Delilah Lobo stated that establishments have obtained the restaurant license and if loud music is being played, the panchayat should take action against them, cancel the license of the concerned and seal the place.

“If one wants to play music, it should either be in-house or music lovers should be asked to put on headphones, so that the sound of the music does not travel out and disturb people in the locality,” said Lobo.

She also directed the police and panchayat to hold a meeting with all club and restaurant owners and take appropriate steps so that the music does not disturb locals in the area.
