The Goa police have begun collecting evidence against the Gujarat-based hotelier, who is accused of drugging and raping a struggling model during their ‘business trip’ to Goa last year.
The 21-year-old, in a complaint filed with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit this week, charged the man with allegedly drugging, raping, and threatening her. The police are also probing into the trafficking angle as the victim was “forced to re-visit Goa for prostitution” later this year.
On Friday, the women police along with the complainant visited the crime scene “ the Calangute hotel “ where the offense first took place in December 2021. The investigation sleuths have asked the management to share the footage of the security cameras installed on the premises. However, it is believed that the footage has been overwritten by fresh data. Police sources said they are likely to rope in forensic experts to retrieve the data.
“Statement of the hotel staff will also be recorded,” sources added.
The young woman from Gujarat has claimed the hotelier, on the pretext of a business trip to Goa, spiked her drink and raped her in a hotel where they had checked in. On confronting her accused, he threatened her with making her obscene videos viral as he filmed her in an objectionable position. Taking advantage of her situation, she was called to Goa again where she was sexually assaulted by four others.
The accused person, whose name has been withheld by the police, is booked under various non-bailable offenses of the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, and Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. A team is soon to leave for Gandhidham (Gujarat) to arrest the accused and his accomplices.
