Police recovered three mobile sets, cash, and attached a Yamaha scooter (GA-03-AC-2671) and a Vespa scooter (GA-03-AB-1227) which were used by the accused persons to run the prostitution business.
Acting on reliable information, police laid a trap near the Navtara Hotel in Calangute close to midnight on Wednesday and rescued two girls hailing from Punjab
and Maharashtra.
“The two accused “ Subrata Nayak (22) and Abdul Mayam (23) “ both natives of Orissa and Assam respectively, came on two-wheelers along with the girls. They were caught red-handed while the girls were being presented to decoy customers,” said Jivba Dalvi, Calangute PI.
According to the police inspector, the accused were providing girls for prostitution on two-wheelers and as such it became difficult to identify and trace the victims and the
accused pimps.
“This arrest indicates that the pimps are changing their modus operandi to escape from the clutches of the police,” the PI said.
The rescued girls have been sent to the protective home at Merces, while the owners of the two-wheelers have been summoned to verify their role in the crime.
An offence under Section 370 IPC and Sections 4, 5, and 7 of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 has been registered against the accused. Calangute police is investigating the case.
