Action taken after benches were used for drinking and sleeping
Margao police act against people using the Margao Municipal garden benches as a place to sleep.

Margao police have returned to the Margao Municipal garden, not for routine security, but to remove anti-social elements who had turned the garden benches into their sleeping place.
A police team was seen asking people to leave after they were found sleeping on the benches. This action followed strict instructions from Margao MLA and PWD Minister Digambar Kamat.
The drive was carried out after the return of such elements to the garden, where they were seen drinking liquor and sleeping.
The minister had recently directed the police to make regular rounds of the garden to ensure the benches are not used as beds by migrants and beggars, as this gives a poor image of the city.
Many residents feel that after fencing was installed to prevent vehicles from entering the garden footpath, it became easier for these elements to return and occupy the benches once again.
