The State unit of the Bajrang Dal and District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (DSPCA) conducted a gauraksha raid on Sunday morning and rescued five bulls from a Maharashtra-registered vehicle.
The bulls and the vehicle were later handed over to the Maina-Curtorim police for further action.
Maina-Curtorim Police Station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak told the media that the Police have arrested one person in connection with the seizure.
He said the police have registered an FIR based on a written complaint received from Raj Pratik, Officer of District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (South Goa).
In his complaint, Raj Pratik stated that accused Prajat Hari Joshi, a resident of Kudal, driver of Balero pickup van had illegally transported five bulls in the carriage of the vehicle without valid documentation.
It was further stated in the complaint that the bulls were being transported without proper feeding and separate compartment to the animals in the vehicle and confined in improper manner, restricting their movement, thereby committing cruelty.
The police have registered FIR under section 325 of BNS and Sec 11 (1) (a)(d)(e)(1) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The police are investigating.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Redkar, Gauraksha Pramukh, Bajrang Dal Goa Vibhag, stated that the successful operation was jointly conducted by Bajrang Dal Goa Vibhag and DSPCA officers by intercepting the vehicle.
Redkar thanked the Goa Police, DSPCA and Dhyan Foundation for swift action, saying Bajrang Dal will continue to protect Gau Mata through lawful means.
