Korgao woman dies in road mishap
PERNEM: A 46-year-old woman from Korgao died, after her two-wheeler was knocked down by a car at Ugvem-Pernem on Monday. The car driver from Maharashtra has been arrested in this connection.
According to Pernem Police, the accident occurred at 4 pm when Shobha Shetye was proceeding towards Ugvem on her two-wheeler (GA-11-B-9760) to celebrate ‘Bhaubeej'. When she reached at Ugvem, she was knocked down by a car (MH-09-BH-9889) and Shetye sustained serious injuries.
Police said Shetye was rushed to Tuem Community Health Centre, where she succumbed to injuries while undergoing medical treatment.
Pernem Police have arrested the car driver Sagar Patil for driving rash and negligent driving. Police conducted the panchanama and sent the body to GMC Hospital at Bambolim for autopsy.
Mayem local ssaulted, robbed of gold chain
MAPUSA: Two unidentified persons assaulted a 43-year-old resident of Mayem and robbed his gold chain and two-wheeler at Corjuvem in the wee hours of Monday.
According to Mapusa Police, the incident took place at about 2 am when the victim, Ulhas Redkar was proceeding towards his house at Mayem after attending ‘Bhaubeej' at his sister's residence at Canca.
When Redkar crossed the Corjuvem bridge, he stopped his two-wheeler (GA-04-K-0295) to answer nature's call. Two unidentified persons came on a two-wheeler and started assaulting Redkar. They snatched his golden chain worth Rs 40,000 and fled with Redkar's two-wheeler.
Mapusa Police have registered an offence against two unidentified persons under Sections 341 and 394 of IPC and Mapusa PSI Rohan Madgaonkar is investigating.
Buffalo rescued at Colvale
MAPUSA: Fire fighters rescued a buffalo, which had fallen into a pit that was dug to lay power cables near housing board at Colvale on Monday.
According to sources, an agency has about 15 pits along the NH17 at Colvale to lay power cables. All the pits were kept open, due to which a buffalo fell into the pit. A man noticed the struggling buffalo and immediately alerted Mapusa fire station. Fire fighters Pramod Mahale rushed to the site and rescued the buffalo from the pit.
