Goa police has offered to develop a digital platform to help rent-a-car and rent-a-bike operators verify and record customer details, following concerns over the unauthorised use of private vehicles for commercial rentals and compliance with transport permit conditions.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting convened by Goa police with around 50 representatives of rental agencies from across the State on Monday.
Chaired by Director General of Police Alok Kumar, the meeting discussed about how digital platform will enable operators to capture customer details as required under the Transport Department's permit conditions. The operators agreed to use the platform to authenticate documents submitted by customers before renting out vehicles.
The operators also raised the issue of paying traffic fines in different jurisdictions across Goa, which required them to travel to the respective locations to clear challans. Transport Department officials, also attending the meeting, agreed to examine the possibility of centralising the payment of fines by rental agencies to ease the process.
Police also advised rental operators to collect all relevant customer details in accordance with the Transport Department's policy and maintain courteous behaviour towards tourists. They were also encouraged to install GPS devices in all rental vehicles.
