Porvorim police on Monday sought to throw more light on the deceased and accused in connection with the Socorro murder case.
Addressing a news conference at the Porvorim Police station, Sub Divisional Police Officer Vishwesh Karpe sought to clarify the events leading to the murder of Anand Patil near the garden at Socorro panchayat on June 18.
Karpe mentioned a case of accident was reported at the Porvorim Police station on June 18 in connection with Anand Patil.
“Patil had reported initially to his mother Shashikala Patil (78) that he had fallen from the bike due to which he had sustained injuries. Accordingly, the complaint was registered in the Porvorim Police station,” said Karpe.
“However, when Patil was admitted to Goa Medical College hospital at Bambolim, it was revealed that Patil was brutally assaulted and it was not a case of accident. A Porvorim police team, therefore, went to Socorro to probe into the matter.”
“Police were informed that both Patil and the main accused, Saurabh Narulkar, are residing in the same locality and that Patil had been assaulted after an altercation on June 18.”
Karpe added that Porvorim police received information during investigation that Patil had allegedly snatched a bracelet of Narulkar at Mapusa on January 1, 2026, but Narulkar later compromised the matter with Patil.
Karpe confirmed that while one case had been registered by Porvorim Police against Patil, there are three cases against Narulkar with the Panaji police station, there are no criminal cases against the three other accused, Pranav Borkar, Arjun Paryekar and Anish Borkar.
“The deceased was working for a hotel at Calangute as storekeeper. He was removed from the job 5-6 months back and presently was working as a driver,” said Karpe.
The case has been registered under Sections 352, 351(3)133,103(1) read with 3(5) of BNS 2023 against Narulkar and 3 other accused.
Police presented the main accused Narulkar before the Judicial Magistrate First Class and he was remanded to seven days in police custody.
“The remand of other accused in police custody was extended by a further four days,” said Karpe.
