Political shake-up in Uccassaim p’yat; no-trust motion filed against sarpanch

In a dramatic turn of political events, four panchayat members of Uccassaim village panchayat have moved a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Richa Salgaonkar, signalling a major shift in local power dynamics.

The move came immediately after panchayat member Alphy D’Souza was elected as the new deputy sarpanch of the village on Thursday, further intensifying the political turbulence within the panchayat.

Sources indicate that the new alignment within the local body is seeking to challenge the existing leadership and reshape governance in the village.

Salgaonkar, who has held the position for the past two and a half years, is known to be aligned with former MLA Glen Ticlo. However, the latest political developments suggest that the balance of power in the panchayat has shifted, with the newly formed group reportedly having the backing of local Congress MLA Carlos Ferreira.

The no-confidence motion is expected to trigger further political maneuvering in the days ahead, as both factions strategise for control over the panchayat.

Observers note that this development reflects a broader political shift in the region, with local governance becoming increasingly influenced by party affiliations and power struggles at higher levels.

With tensions running high, all eyes are now on the next course of action from both Salgaonkar’s camp and the group that has challenged her leadership. Whether she manages to hold onto her position or the new alliance succeeds in unseating her will be determined in the upcoming proceedings of the panchayat.
