An official of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Tuesday inspected a site at Colva after activist Judith Almeida complained that the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed has disappeared from the site.
After the inspection, the GSPCB official said he would submit the report to the senior officials on the MRF at Colva.
Judith told the media that the High Court in a suo moto writ petition had directed all the panchayats and municipalities to set up MRFs. She said the Colva panchayat has been showing the MRF at different places every time.
“The site which is now being inspected was the latest place, where a shed was erected with police protection and a report was filed before the GSPCB that a temporary MRF is set up,” she said.
She added: “Two weeks ago, I got the information that the shed has disappeared. I immediately filed a complaint with the GSPCB informing that the MRF set up by the panchayat is not there at the site. Today, the GSPCB had come to inspect the site and found no MRF shed.”
"When this has been the state of the MRF, they go on granting construction licenses. Huge constructions have come up without anybody knowing,” she said, as she hoped the GSPCB will take cognizance of the situation.
