The Goa State Pollution Control Board, at its meeting on Tuesday, declined to grant South West Port Ltd a fresh consent to import coal at its berths 5A and 6A on grounds that it had violated the conditions of the consent granted to it earlier.
Speaking to The Goan, Chairman of the Goa State Pollution Control Board Ganesh Shetgaonkar informed that the importer had applied for a fresh consent to operate from the GSPCB after the GSPCB had quashed its earlier consent to operate for importing more coal than it was permitted.
The GSPCB in its meeting also declined to grant South West Port Ltd a consent to handle coal at the mooring dolphins operated by the Mormugao Port on grounds that the operators do not have a valid environmental clearance to handle coal at the mooring dolphins.
Earlier, South West Port Ltd had a consent to handle 7.5 million metric tons of coal at its berths at Mormugao Port which was later reduced to 4.125 million metric tons in response to complaints of pollution in the air.
The Pollution Board in its meeting has granted permission to establish a mixed waste garbage treatment plant at Cacora while also agreeing to hike the capacity of the Calangute Solid Waste Management Plant to 250 tons per day.
