The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to build two more sheds at the garbage segregation site in Kerye-Khandepar, for bailing unit and to segregate garbage over a conveyor belt. Besides this, the existing sheds will be repaired as per requirement and load of work.

This was decided at a council meeting presided over by PMC chairperson Pradeep Naik, which was attended by Ponda MLA Ravi Naik and other councillors. Chief Officer Navanath Naik was also present at the meeting.

The council discussed various issues which were pending due to the election

code of conduct.

“The garbage segregation site at Kerye will be revamped and two new sheds will be constructed for the purpose,” Pradeep Naik told The Goan.

He also stated that the PMC could not take up development works due to the code of conduct, but now it would take up those works on

priority.

Asked if pre-monsoon works had been taken up, he said those works have been undertaken and stress was given to sites where waterlogging takes place.

“We will take care to ensure that waterlogging does not take place and hence, our efforts are there to resolve such issues. Besides this, other pre-monsoon works were discussed and we will resolve them shortly,”

he said.

During the meeting, some suggested that electricity fixtures could be bought by individual councillors and bills could later be produced for payments.

“To buy these fixtures, we need an NOC from the electricity department and we could not get it. However, I will send our resolution to the electricity department to provide us the fixtures,” the PMC chairperson said.

PMC meets important to me: Ravi Naik

PONDA: Ponda MLA and ex-officio member of Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Ravi Naik emphasised the importance of attending council meetings, as it gave him valuable inputs on issues facing the council and public.

The senior Congress leader has been continuously attending PMC meetings, even though the MGP-backed councillors had formed the council.

Speaking to The Goan, Ravi Naik said he attends PMC meetings because he can get to know issues facing the public and council.

“I can then push for development works. I even feel the Panchayat Raj Act should be amended and MLA be made an ex-officio member of panchayats, so that the MLA can participate in panchayat meetings,” Naik said.
