The spouses of two sitting councillors of Ponda Municipal Council, whose wards are reserved for women for the forthcoming polls, entered the MGP along with former councillor Pradip Naik and their supporters. Dr Ketan Bhatikar welcomed the new entrants and said the MGP is increasing its base in Ponda.
“We have already become stronger and more are likely to join soon,” said Dr Bhatikar.
Vincent Paul Fernandes, whose Ward 9 has been reserved for women, has introduced his wife Seema into the fray while Shivanand Sawant from Ward 12 is likely to field his wife, Jaya who also joined the MGP. Though their names have not been declared yet, it appears the MGP will support their candidature for the polls.
Former councilor Pradip Naik from Ward 8, and Amina Kushendra Naik from Ward 13 also joined the MGP along with her supporters.
“We will soon declare our candidates and we are confident of winning maximum seats,” Dr Bhatikar told media persons.
