Voters in Ponda town will exercise their franchise on Sunday from 8 am to 5 pm to elect the new Ponda Municipal Council (PMC). As many as 74 candidates are contesting to 15 wards, with prominent parties, Congress, BJP, MGP, and Swabhimani Fondekar backing separate panels.
Eager to woo the voters till the last minute, sources said many candidates had interacted with voters on Saturday, even though campaigning ended on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, election staff were seen collecting ballot boxes for their respective polling stations. As many as 250 staff and police personnel are engaged in the entire election process. There are a total of 15,948 voters in the 15 wards.
The State EC has set up 26 polling stations. Four wards (1, 11, 13 and 14) have only one polling station, while the remaining wards will have two polling stations.
