Poor response to bandh in port town
VASCO: The strike called by trade unions evoked poor response in the port town, as public transport and other establishments functioned normally.
Though there was fear in the minds of bus commuters that private buses will remain off the road, the fear was laid to rest when even the city and inter city private buses were functioning normally.
Shops and establishments including vegetable and fish markets were seen carrying out business activities normally.
When contacted, Mormugao DySP Sucheta Dessai said no complaints were received from her division, as the strike did not evoke any response.
“Commuters and other citizens did not face problems, as we were fully geared to tackle any untoward situation,” said DySP Dessai.
“We had also deployed police at the bus stands and in the city to tackle any situation arising out of the strike called by the trade unions,” added DySP Dessai.
