Porvorim PHC turns one

The non-bedded Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Porvorim has completed one year of its existence and has been receiving good response from the public.

Porvorim PHC caters to about 44,000 population in the villages of Penha de Franca, Salvador-do-Mundo, Socorro and Guirim through its seven sub-health centres.   
When Porvorim PHC started in April 2016, on an average 3 to 4 patients per day used to visit the OPD. However, with the passage of time, this number went on increasing and now about 90 patients visit the OPD daily. Two doctors, health officer Dr Roshan Nazareth and Dr Maria Fernandes attend to the OPD patients.   
OPD operates in the morning on all working days except Thursday. On Thursday morning, PHC conducts immunization programme and in the evening OPD patients are treated. OPDs are also conducted at sub health centres at Guirim and Socorro 1 (Serula) on Wednesday, Salai and Britona on Thursday and Betim and Socorro II (Porvorim plateau) on Friday.   
Health officer Nazareth said under immunization programme all types of vaccines like OPV, Hep-B, BCG, measles, MMR, Booster DPT, TT, Rubela and anti rabbies vaccines for dogs and cats bite are given administered.   
“Malaria situation is under control. In June 2016, 53 malaria cases were detected in Porvorim and following stringent measures by PHC, the malaria cases have been brought down to zero in March 2017,” informed Nazareth.   
“PHC has issued no objection certificates to 172 constructions from June 2016 till March 2017 and has issued 3,800 new health cards to labourers working at construction sites during the said period.”   
“Besides blood investigation of hemoglobin, smear test for malaria parasite, rapid diagnostic test for malaria, bleeding time and clotting time, blood grouping, blood sugar examination are also being done at PHC every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. PHC has received good response from the general public,” said Dr Nazareth.  
The staff has called upon the general public of the constituency to come and attend to their basic medical needs at the centre and at the sub-centres in the area.
