The Anjuna traffic police on duty alerted a truck driver transporting cable wire after they noticed the cable on fire and thereby averted a possible tragedy on Saturday morning.
A truck which was transporting huge rims of power cable wire reportedly came in contact with overhead power lines and was set on fire oblivious to the truck driver.
The traffic police attached to the Anjuna Police Station who noticed the cable wire on fire, alerted the truck driver and signalled him to pull over.
The truck driver who till then was unaware of the gravity of the situation noticed that the consignment he was transporting was on fire only after he alighted from his cabin.
Luckily for the driver, a shovel operator who was passing by the same route landed a helping hand to bring down the huge burning cable wire rim from the truck.
But by then the entire cable was reduced to ashes.
The truck with the cable wire was on its way to Siolim.
Sources informed that the cable wire was being transported to Siolim-Marna where work of underground cabling was presently going on.
